Founded in 2022, Professional Marine Courses at Skagit Valley College were created to provide high-quality marine education specifically for individuals seeking focused, professional training and new career opportunities.
Courses are taught at Skagit Valley College’s Marine Technology Center and other marine industry facilities in Anacortes, Washington, providing students with access to both classroom instruction and hands-on learning in a working marine environment.
While the Skagit Valley College technical programs provide excellent, comprehensive training for individuals preparing for careers as marine technicians, the traditional 12-week course format can be challenging for people transitioning to a new career, working in the marine industry, or looking to add specialized skills to their existing experience.
Professional Marine Courses offer a more focused and flexible approach to professional
development. Our courses are designed to provide practical, industry-relevant skills
for entering or advancing in several high-demand areas of the marine marketplace.
Training opportunities include Marine Surveying, Marine Canvas, and American Boat
& Yacht Council (ABYC) technical training, with courses developed and taught by experienced
marine professionals.

SVC Marine Surveying: Yachts and Small Craft
Launch your career in the marine industry with the Marine Surveying course. This course provides the essential skills needed to perform vessel inspections, damage evaluations, and condition and valuation surveys.
Marine Surveying: Yachts and Small Craft focuses on recreational vessels 65 feet and under. Through structured modules, students learn inspection procedures, survey standards, reporting techniques, and evaluation methods using practical exercises, case studies, and assessments.
Professional Marine Canvas
Build practical skills in marine canvas fabrication through the Professional Marine Canvas course series.
The series includes Marine Canvas Bootcamp, Boat and Equipment Covers, Boat Upholstery and Cushions, and Bimini Tops. Designed for boat owners, DIYers, and those preparing for employment in the marine canvas trade, courses combine instruction with hands-on projects using marine-grade materials and equipment.
No sewing experience is required for the introductory Marine Canvas Bootcamp.
