Learn DIY techniques from the marine tech pros at SVC Cruiser’s College.Founded in 2016, Cruisers College was created to provide high-quality marine education specifically for boat owners. Courses are taught in Skagit Valley College's marine technology center, offering opportunities for demonstrations and hands-on learning.
While the Skagit Valley College technical programs deliver excellent training for new marine technicians, their 12-week course format can be challenging for many boat owners to commit to. Cruisers College bridges this gap by delivering practical training designed in accessible one-day or weekend formats.
Cruisers College benefits both participants and the local community—bringing visitors to town while making productive use of specialized facilities and equipment that often sit idle on weekends.

Cruisers College, offered by Skagit Valley College, has been providing high-quality, hands-on education for boat owners and mariners for more than 10 years.
Our courses are designed to help you become a more confident and capable boater—whether you’re just getting started or looking to expand your skills. Learn how to safely operate and maintain your boat, prepare for offshore cruising, troubleshoot equipment, plan routes, improve onboard systems, and respond to emergencies.
Each year, Cruisers College offers a wide variety of courses, with many of our most popular classes offered in both the Fall and Spring. Our hands-on instruction is taught by experienced marine professionals who understand the challenges and rewards of being on the water.

Marine Canvas Training at Cruisers College
We’re excited to offer our most comprehensive marine canvas training program yet,
with five hands-on training options designed to meet a range of experience levels
and goals.
Start with our Marine Canvas Boot Camp, where you’ll learn the fundamentals of marine canvas fabrication. This hands-on course covers sewing machine setup and operation, essential materials and techniques, and the skills needed to complete your first canvas project.
Ready to take your skills further? Our advanced canvas courses build on these fundamentals and introduce more specialized fabrication techniques, giving you the confidence to tackle increasingly complex projects on your own boat.
For those looking to take a deeper dive into marine canvas fabrication—or considering a career in the industry—we offer four additional weekend training opportunities focused on professional-level skills and techniques.
There is a growing demand for skilled marine canvas professionals. Many established canvas shops are booking projects months in advance, while some are no longer accepting new customers.
