Washington College Grant

Free Money for College!

The Washington College Grant (WCG) provides guaranteed college funding through the state to all eligible residents of Washington State, including low- and middle-income students. The first step toward getting funding through the grant is to complete a federal or state financial aid application: FAFSA or WASFA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Submit the FAFSA or WASFA as soon as possible starting Oct. 1 for the following year. Include SVC, school code 003792, in your list of schools.

In Washington, there are two different applications for financial aid, but you only need to file ONE. Please contact us if you're not sure which application to complete or complete the WASFA Questionnaire.

  • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if you are a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Complete the WASFA (Washington Application for State Aid) if you have HB1079 or DACA status.

If you are a new student planning to attend SVC, be sure to apply now!

The amount you qualify for is determined by your Student Aid Index (SAI). Which is generated using a formula mandated by the Department of Education, known as federal methodology. The formula uses the information you and your parent(s) provide on your financial aid application. The SAI is a measure of your/your family’s financial strength. Your SAI is not the amount of money you/your family will have to pay for college, nor is it the amount of money you will receive. The SAI is used to determine your demonstrated financial need.

No – grant funding is “free money” and does not need to be paid back as long as you maintain eligibility.
