Students at Skagit Valley College who wish to study abroad have access to a wide variety of study abroad programs, from SVC faculty-led short-term programs to quarter-long programs offered by our partner WCCCSA, and many more. Recent and upcoming programs include study in Florence, London, Berlin, Australia/New Zealand, Costa Rica, China, Japan and Ireland.
You can also apply for scholarships and other financial assistance to help pay for your study abroad. And join SVC’s International Travel Club (Facebook) so you can meet other students who share your enthusiasm for travel and study in foreign countries! Applications are now being accepted to help SVC students with financial aid need to participate in academic study abroad programs during 2017. The SVC Study Abroad Travel Fund is a joint project of the SVC Foundation and the SVC International Travel Club. Download application instructions for more information on eligibility and how to apply.
Application deadline is Thursday, November 10, 2016. Please submit application to Ted Maloney, International Program Office, Cardinal Center, at the Mount Vernon Campus.

Diane Johnson, SVC Music Department Chair, is hosting a trip to Peru during spring break of 2017. The trip dates are March 23-April 2, 2017. The focus of the trip is history, the arts and culture. The trip will also be offered as an optional Integrative Experience for Spring quarter 2017.
The total cost for travelers under 30 is $3919 and $4129 for those over 30. The price includes everything but one meal per day. The trip is open to all students, faculty, staff and community members.

Study abroad scholarships for community college students are available through programs such as Gilman (Pell Grant recipients only, up to $5,000 awards), http://www.iie.org/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program/About-the-Program, and Fund for Education Abroad (FEA), http://www.fundforeducationabroad.org/.
Application cycles for Gilman begin again in August, and for FEA in November. Three Washington community college students were recently awarded Gilman scholarships, so please encourage students to start planning early and enter the competition for funds. Students enrolled at SVC are also eligible for SVC Foundation study abroad scholarship funds for approved programs.
