Due to unexpected worsening conditions, Skagit Valley College is closing immediately for the remainder of the day Monday, March 4. All day/evening classes and activities are canceled.

All Skagit Valley College locations will resume normal operations Friday, Jan. 19. On-campus activities and athletic events will be held.  

Safety is always a priority. Please use your discretion based on your local road conditions. Please travel safely and use caution when driving and walking.

SVC campuses and centers closed Wednesday, Jan. 17

Jan. 17, 2024

Due to inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution, all SVC campuses and centers will close at 11 a.m. for the remainder of the day Wednesday, Jan. 17. All classes are canceled, and all campus activities, including athletic and other events, are canceled.

There will be an update by 6 a.m. tomorrow morning for Thursday, Jan. 18 operations.

Power Outage at Mount Vernon Campus

UPDATE: The power has been restored at the SVC Mount Vernon campus. We anticipate there may be continued outages due to inclement weather. In the interest of the safety of our students and employees, MV campus will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

Due to the continued power outage, the SVC Mount Vernon campus is now closed. All classes and activities are canceled for the remainder of Tues., Jan. 9. Whidbey Island campus and San Juan Center as well as other college operations will remain open.

Dec. 12, 2023: Whidbey Island Campus closed

Update: Power has been restored to the Whidbey Island Campus. Return to normal operations on Dec. 13, 2023.


Due to an extended power failure the Whidbey Island Campus is closed. All activities and events are cancelled for the evening of Dec. 12, 2023.

LOCKDOWN – SVC has issued a LOCKDOWN.

Wed. Feb 22, 2022 – 8:12 p.m.

UPDATE: Whidbey Island Campus is now open. All WIC activities and classes resume normal operations Thursday, Feb. 23.

Wed. Feb 22, 2023 – 5 p.m.

All Navy base facilities on Whidbey Island are in lockdown for a possible active shooter. Whidbey Island Campus is on lockdown as a precaution. Please avoid the area.

Wed. Feb. 22, 2023 – 4:40 p.m.

Whidbey Island campus on lockdown. Please avoid the area. We are cooperating with police. Situation is developing. More to come.

Feb. 15, 2023

UPDATE: We received confirmation that the lockdown has been lifted and there is no threat to the Whidbey Island campus. All classes, meetings, and activities remain on schedule. Safety remains our number one priority. Whenever a situation is of concern to the SVC community, we will notify you. 

According to the Oak Harbor Police Department, Oak Harbor High School and Hillcrest Elementary are currently in lockdown and they are investigating. Skagit Valley College has convened its Emergency Operation Center team and is monitoring the situation closely to see if there is an impact on our Whidbey Island campus. OHPD has recommended staying clear of the area. We will provide updates as they become available.

Due to continued inclement weather, Skagit Valley College is operating remotely on Friday, Dec. 23 and offering online only services. All SVC locations are closed to in-person services and all campus activities, including athletics and events, are canceled. 

All college support services and business operations will be available online. Employees unable to work remotely or assigned to on-campus operations should check in with supervisors for alternative work assignments or leave options.

SVC Mount Vernon campus in-person evening classes and activities canceled Tues., Nov. 29

Due to inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution, all SVC Mount Vernon campus in-person classes and activities starting at 4:30 or later today Nov. 29 are canceled.

McIntyre Hall remains open.

LOCKDOWN – SVC has issued a LOCKDOWN.

Monday, May 9, 2022 – 12:12 p.m.

The College received a general threat of violence via email on Sunday evening. The email was sent to multiple college offices and was discovered this morning.  

College staff contacted the Mount Vernon and Oak Harbor Police Departments immediately to report the threat. The Emergency Operations Center put the college into lockdown at 8:42 a.m. 

A similar threat was made to Bellevue College and Everett Community College. Bellevue College went into lockdown on Friday and Everett CC did so this morning. EOC staff communicated with staff at both colleges to learn more about their investigations.  

In coordination with the MVPD and OHPD, the lockdown was lifted at 9:30 a.m. 

Local law enforcement continues to investigate. In the meantime, law enforcement and the College’s Safety and Security office are providing increased patrols. 

We will update as more information becomes available.

Skagit Valley College has issued a LOCKDOWN order. Please get yourself and others into the closest room and quietly await further instructions. Close all windows and shades.Turn off lights, remain quiet and stay low if danger is nearby. Move to the safest point in the room, away from doors and windows. Remain alert for additional announcements. Those outside should leave the campus immediately via safest route and method. LOCKDOWN.

Closures include Cardinal Craft Brewing Academy and the Marine Technology Center. Please note: The San Juan Center will be open.
